Wellington Bay has sea caves, when you are lucky with the weather it makes a great dive, it is a particular good dive with the wind from the North East, good viz and lots of life make this area near the Tory Channel entrance such a good dive site. The sea caves are hollowed out by the wave action over the years and make a magical environment. Large fish and pelagic come past in this area. In July humpback whales pop past on their migration route through Cook Straight.
This is also a scenic spot with dramatic cliff faces, that continue underwater in rocky caves and canyons, some surge may be present here at times usually viz is about 5-10 meters.
Port Underwood is a more sheltered area nearby, the South Island part of the treaty of Waitangi was signed here. A lot os commercial cray pots are present but there is plenty left.
