The Hauraki Gulf offers excellent diving in the many islands which protect this harbour. From Sail Rock in the North to Arid Cove on the far side of Great Barrier island and back to the marine reserve of Goat Island their is something for everyone. Goat Island especially offers diving and snorkelling for beginners and is one of the first places many people get to experience their first scuba dive. Little Barrier Island itself is a reserve but the diving around here can be spectacular with lots of crayfish and kelp beds.
Most diving can be accessed by a short boat trip and many of the local scuba diving shops and clubs run charters to these areas.
